The Book House is an independent bookshop, housed in a charming listed building on the High Street of the historic market town of Thame. It is owned by Brian Pattinson, who has been selling books for over forty years.
We stock thousands of books covering a wide range of topics and we are particularly known for our excellence and skill in the field of children’s books. Our children’s area extends through half our shop, into our beautiful conservatory which looks out into a small, walled garden.
We also sell a fantastic range of greetings cards and wrapping paper as well as an ever-changing selection of social stationery, notebooks, calendars and diaries – with a fabulous range of traditional advent calendars (imported from Germany) at Christmas.
Our staff team has decades of experience of loving books between them – and different specialities. Many of them belong to book groups, and over the years many customers have become friends – and indeed some customers have become staff... Our “Staff Choice” stickers indicate those titles which we have enjoyed, and we are always happy to offer advice.
We helped to create the Oxford Literary Festival and were involved for the first seven years. Now we are involved with the creation of a literary festival for Thame – the inaugural Thame Arts and Literature Festival launched in June 2010.
We also organise a number of events through the year – book launches and author visits in the shop as well as in schools. Please contact us if you would like to be sent information about forthcoming events.
